Val Senales in summer

The Italian Alps in summer enjoy pleasantly mild weather. In Val Senales, the meadows are in full bloom, and the glacier ice sparkles from above. If you don’t feel like hiking or biking, you still have plenty of excursion options nearby. Right here in the valley, don’t miss the archeoParc, Juval Castle, and the small pilgrimage church in Madonna di Senales. Further afield, the Naturno thermal baths and the spa town of Merano await. And with the Mobile Guest Card, you can get everywhere for free anyway.

The pilgrimage church in Madonna di Senales

The pilgrimage church of Madonna di Senales, built on a rocky ridge in the middle of the valley, was first mentioned in 1304. What drew pilgrims for centuries is a late-Romanesque miraculous image, a statue of the Virgin Mary carved from boxwood. Its origin is uncertain, but according to legend, the church was built at this very location after the statue was found here. The originally Romanesque church was later remodeled in Gothic and then Baroque style.

archeoParc

The archeoParc, an open-air museum in Madonna di Senales, provides a clear and family-friendly overview of the history of Ötzi, the glacier mummy discovered in 1991 on the Val Senales Glacier. It is one of the most popular excursion destinations in Val Senales in summer and should not be missed during your holiday! In the outdoor area, a prehistoric village has been reconstructed where children can practice archery, bread baking, and more.
